Internet Policy

Use of computers and access to the internet is provided for card-holding patrons. Visitors may have access to computers and internet services up to three times at no cost. Visitors must check-in at the circulation desk to register for guest computer use. After three uses, visitors must purchase a non-resident card to gain future computer and internet access.

The Internet and its available resources contain a wide variety of materials and options from varied points of view. In offering Internet access, library staff cannot control access points which often change rapidly and unpredictably. Users are hereby notified that they are responsible for the access points they reach. Parents of minor children must assume responsibility for their children’s use of the internet while at the Library. The West Iron District Library assumes no responsibility for any damages, direct or indirect, arising from internet use at the Library.

Just as the library does not vouch for or endorse the viewpoints of written materials in our collection, it does not do for the information found on the internet. Is it the responsibility of the user (or the parents/guardian or caregiver) to use a critical eye and determine what is appropriate. It is not acceptable to use the internet for any purpose which violates US state or local laws to transmit obscene, threatening materials or to interfere with or disrupt network users, services or equipment. Unsolicited advertising is not acceptable. Users may not represent themselves as another person while using the internist. Internet users are reminded that computers are located in a public area visible to all. Not all materials on the internet are appropriate in a public setting. Be advised: discretion is expected.
